Hope in Action/Answers
The second city in Joshua is not a plot hole. It is a place.
What Happened at Ai?
After Jericho, Joshua’s army stumbled at a smaller city called Ai because of hidden sin in the camp, then returned and took it. Critics have used Ai as a gotcha: “We cannot find it, so Joshua is fiction.” Archaeologists who excavated in that region have argued that the site identification and the remains fit the campaign the text describes.
You can excavate a sentence in Joshua
The Bible gives distances, ridges, ambush positions, and a ruin that remains “to this day.” That is not how myths talk. That is how people talk who expect you to go look. The better field work takes those directions seriously instead of assuming the author was lost.
Archaeology rarely hands you a plaque that says “Joshua slept here.” It does keep showing that the land and the book belong to the same world.
“So Joshua burned Ai and made it a heap forever, a desolation to this day.”
Joshua 8:28 (NKJV)

The real issue at Ai was not tactics. It was a hidden yes to sin
The first attack failed because Achan buried what God had banned. Geography matters. Obedience matters more. A church that loves archaeology and still preaches holiness is not confused. Both are about reality.
Come walk with people who take the Word as true on the map and true in the heart.
“Get up, sanctify the people, and say, “Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you.’”
Joshua 7:13 (NKJV)
