Hope in Action/Answers
God is not the thief. He is the Judge who also became the Lamb.
What About Violence in the Old Testament?
These chapters are hard. If they have ever turned your stomach, you are not less spiritual than someone who shrugs. The Bible does not give you a tame God. It also does not give you a cruel one. You have to let Jesus interpret the Father, and you have to let the whole story speak — including the Lamb at the end of it.
Judgment is not the same as authorship of evil
John 10:10 still stands in Joshua. The thief steals, kills, and destroys. Jesus gives life. When God judges, He is not becoming the thief. He is dealing with a world that had filled itself with violence, idolatry, and the destruction of people made in His image — including children offered to false gods.
That does not make every verse easy. It does keep you from baptizing evil as God’s personality. He is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10 (NKJV)

The story was always heading toward mercy
The same Bible that records judgment also records God waiting centuries, sending prophets, and then sending His Son. Jesus did not arrive to contradict the Father. He arrived to bear judgment in His own body so you could be spared it.
Bring the hard questions. We will not mock them. We will read them next to a cross — because that is where the character of God is finally seen in full.
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)
