Same God. Clearer picture. The Son is the explanation.
Is the Old Testament God Different from Jesus?
It is a fair tension. You read judgment in Joshua and then watch Jesus pick up children, and you wonder if they even know each other. They do. The Father did not get converted between Malachi and Matthew. The Son came to show you the heart that had been there the whole time — and to finish what the old covenant could only foreshadow.
Jesus claimed the God of Abraham as His Father
He did not start a new religion with a nicer deity. He fulfilled the Law and the Prophets. He said Moses wrote about Him. When He wanted you to know the Father, He did not apologize for the Old Testament. He opened it and showed Himself in it.
Judgment in Scripture is never God having a mood swing. It is a holy God dealing with evil in a world that had invited it. The thief comes to steal. Jesus comes to give life. That has always been the divide.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV)

The cross is how the whole book makes sense
Every sacrifice was a shadow. Every rescue was a preview. Jesus is the Lamb the old stories were practicing for. If you only read wrath without the Lamb, you will misread the Father. If you only read kindness without holiness, you will misread the Son.
Bring the hard passages. We will not pretend they are easy. We will read them through Jesus — because that is how the Bible itself teaches you to read.
“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.”
John 5:39 (NKJV)
