Hope in Action/Answers

He looks like Jesus. That is not poetry. That is the point.

What Does God Look Like?

People build God out of weather, out of a parent, out of a pulpit they did not like. Then they are afraid of the sculpture. The Father did not leave His likeness to your imagination. He sent a Son. If you want to know what God looks like, watch Jesus walk through the Gospels.

Jesus is the picture, not a revision

Hebrews 1:3 says He is the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of His person. John 14:9 says if you have seen Jesus, you have seen the Father. That means the Father is not secretly harsher than the Son. He is not the bad cop waiting behind the good cop.

Jesus healed. Jesus forgave. Jesus touched people religion would not touch. That is what God is like. If your picture of God contradicts Jesus, your picture is wrong.

“Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?””

John 14:9 (NKJV)

Look at Him until fear loses its job

A lot of anxiety about God is just an old portrait that never got taken down. Let the Gospels replace it. Then let a church family talk about Him in a way that sounds like the Jesus you just read.

You were made to know a face, not a force. Come see why we cannot stop pointing at Him.

“Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”

Hebrews 1:3 (NKJV)
