Hope in Action/Answers

A skeptical brother and a violent enemy both changed their minds.

How Did James and Paul Become Believers?

You expect friends to hope. You do not expect the brother who thought Jesus was out of line, or the Pharisee who hunted Christians, to start preaching the resurrection — unless they saw Him. The Case for Christ treats James and Paul as two of the most inconvenient facts in the file.

James did not believe. Then he led the church in Jerusalem

John 7 says even His brothers did not believe in Him. After the resurrection, James is a pillar in Jerusalem, and Paul lists him among those the risen Jesus appeared to. People do not usually watch a sibling die a shameful death and then start worshiping him. Not unless the sibling is standing in the room again.

A family skeptic is a terrible person to recruit into a hoax. He is a powerful person to have as a witness.

“After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles.”

1 Corinthians 15:7 (NKJV)

Paul was not searching. He was arresting

Damascus road is not a mood swing. It is an enemy being interrupted by a living Jesus. Paul spent the rest of his life — beatings, shipwrecks, a chain — insisting he had seen the Lord. Plenty of investigations were supposed to end the Christian claim. They did the opposite.

If Jesus can get Paul, He can get you. Come see.

“Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.”

1 Corinthians 15:8 (NKJV)
