Hope in Action/Answers

The city Jonah dreaded is not a fish story. It is a ruin you can photograph.

Has Nineveh Been Unearthed?

Skeptics once treated Nineveh like Atlantis. Then the mounds across from Mosul gave up palaces, colossal winged bulls, and the library of Ashurbanipal. The match is there: a vast city, a repentant generation in Jonah’s day, and later an empire that smashed Israel and surrounded Jerusalem — exactly the arc Scripture told.

Assyria wrote the Bible’s sequel in their own palaces

Sennacherib’s prism describes his campaign against Judah and Hezekiah in language so close to 2 Kings it startles people. The Taylor Prism does not mention a death angel. It also does not claim he captured Jerusalem. Silence where a pagan king would have bragged is its own kind of evidence.

Nineveh’s size, walls, and cruelty are not Sunday-school exaggeration. They are why Jonah ran.

“And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left—and much livestock?”

Jonah 4:11 (NKJV)

A God who can spare Nineveh can still spare you

The archaeological point is that Jonah’s city was real. The gospel point is that God would rather show mercy than be proven right in wrath. Hezekiah prayed. Nineveh repented. You can too.

Come hear a Word that stands up in the dirt and still heals a heart.

“Then the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead.”

Isaiah 37:36 (NKJV)
