Hope in Action/Answers

They read like biographies, not campfire legends.

Can We Trust the Gospels?

If Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are late fan fiction, then the Jesus you meet in them is a rumor. If they are what they claim to be — reports from people who were there — then you are looking at history that will not leave you alone. You are allowed to ask that question with a reporter’s notebook. The answers have not let honest people stay unconvinced.

Ancient biographies, written while witnesses were alive

The Gospels fit the genre of ancient biography. They name places, officials, family lines, and awkward details. They were written within the lifetime of people who could have stood up and said, “That never happened.”

Legends need decades in the dark. The Jesus story was being preached in Jerusalem — the same city where He was killed — while hostile witnesses still had addresses.

“It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.”

Luke 1:3-4 (NKJV)

You can test a report. Then you still have to meet the Person

Evidence can clear the rubble. It cannot replace the Holy Spirit making Jesus known to you. At Church Four Eighteen we open the Gospels every week as a living Word, not as a museum plaque.

If you are skeptical, start with Luke. Read it as if it might be true. Ask God, if He is there, to confirm His Son. That is how a lot of us began.

“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

John 20:31 (NKJV)
