Honor the saints. Do not celebrate the darkness.
Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?
Christians should not celebrate Halloween the way the world does. October 31 was never meant to be a night of fear, gore, or a handshake with the occult. It began as All Hallows’ Eve — the night before a day set apart to honor believers who had finished their race. Honor. Godliness. A cloud of witnesses. What the culture has made of it is a replacement, not a cousin. And it is not neutral to join that replacement.
It was meant to honor the saints of God
All Hallows’ Eve sat in front of All Saints’ — a day to remember men and women who belonged to Jesus and had died in the faith. Hebrews 12 calls them a great cloud of witnesses. That is a holy memory. It is not ghosts. It is not a night that trains children to laugh at death and dress as demons.
If a check in your spirit has been there for years, that is not legalism. That is light recognizing a counterfeit. God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. A liturgy of fear is not how the church honors its dead in Christ.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

Participating like the world is not a gray area
The world will tell you it is only candy, only a costume, only a neighborhood tradition. Scripture is blunter. Ephesians 5 says have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. Deuteronomy forbids witchcraft, mediums, and consulting the dead — not because those things are cute pretend, but because the occult is real enough to defile a people.
You do not have to be afraid of the devil. Jesus already destroyed his works. You also do not have to lend him a porch, a costume, or a night on the calendar. Neutrality is a story we tell ourselves so we will not have to choose. Light does not share a holiday with darkness.

Be the light — without celebrating the night
This is not a call to hide, scowl at neighbors, or turn your kids into a protest sign. Matthew 5 still stands. Let your light shine. Greet the child on your sidewalk. Host a harvest gathering that actually honors Jesus. Remember the saints. Bless your street. What it should not look like is joining the world’s liturgy of fear and then asking God to put His name on it.
Ask Him for wisdom for your house. He gives it without shaming you. Then choose honor over horror, and a Savior who already won. Come Saturday at 5:00 PM. We will keep pointing your family to the Light.
