Hope in Action/Answers
If you were making it up, you would not start the story there.
Why Were Women the First Witnesses?
In first-century Jewish and Roman courts, a woman’s testimony carried less weight. The Gospels, written in that world, still say Mary Magdalene and the other women found the tomb empty and met Jesus first. Historians treat this as one of the strongest fingerprints of memory. Fabricators clean up details like that. Witnesses just tell you who was there.
Embarrassment is a historian’s friend
If the empty-tomb story were invented to persuade a patriarchal city, the first runner would be a male apostle. Instead Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John let the women lead. The men are late, locked in, or slow to believe. That is not flattering. That is reporting.
God is consistent. He keeps trusting the people culture underestimates. The resurrection did not begin in a boardroom.
“Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons.”
Mark 16:9 (NKJV)

The first preacher of Easter was a woman with a past Jesus had already restored
That is the tone of this gospel. Not a clean PR launch. A freed person, sent. If you have a past, you are not disqualified from being a witness. You might be first in line.
Come as you are. The risen Jesus still calls names in gardens.
“Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.”
John 20:18 (NKJV)
