Hope in Action/Answers

One name. Three Persons. Not a pantheon.

Do Christians Worship Three Gods?

From the outside, Father, Son, and Spirit can sound like a committee. Jews and Muslims hear “Son” and think we added partners to God. We did not. Christians have always said what Israel said: the Lord is one. We also say what Jesus said: I and the Father are one, and I will send you the Spirit. Those sentences have to live together.

One God — the Shema still stands

Deuteronomy 6:4 is Christian doctrine, not just Jewish. We do not believe in a senior god with two assistants. We believe in one God who has always existed as Father, Son, and Spirit. Baptism is into one name, not three last names.

Confusion here is understandable. Contradiction is not what the church is claiming. Mystery is not the same as nonsense. Love existed before creation because God was never lonely.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!”

Deuteronomy 6:4 (NKJV)

If Jesus is worshiped, is that a second god?

Only if He is not truly God. Thomas was not starting a second religion when he said, “My Lord and my God.” He was recognizing the one God in the face of the risen Son. The Spirit in you is that same God, present.

Come worship with us and you will not hear three sermons to three deities. You will hear one gospel about one God who saved you as Father, Son, and Spirit.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)
