Rome did not botch an execution. John did not invent a wound.
Did Jesus Really Die on the Cross?
Some sincere Muslims are taught that Jesus only appeared to die — that God rescued Him and someone else took the nails. It is meant to honor Jesus. It collides with the records. Crucifixion was a public Roman specialty. The soldiers, the women, John, Joseph of Arimathea, and the enemies who wanted Him gone all treated Him as dead. A swoon theory asks too much of a body that had already been scourged.
John 19 is medical, not mythical
When the soldiers came to break legs, they saw Jesus was already dead. One pierced His side, and blood and water came out. That is not the description of a man still hiding breath. Pilate required confirmation. Joseph buried a corpse, not a patient.
If Jesus did not die, the resurrection is a trick and our preaching is empty. The first witnesses had no motive to invent a death their own Scriptures called a curse. They reported what they saw.
“But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.”
John 19:33-34 (NKJV)

He died so the “It is finished” could be true
The gospel is not that Jesus escaped. It is that He finished. Sin was paid for in a real body on a real tree. Then that same body got up. Substitution is not a later church idea. It is why He came.
We honor Muslim neighbors as people made in God’s image. We also tell the truth about the cross, because there is no gospel without it. Come hear why His death is good news, not a tragedy God failed to prevent.
“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”
John 19:30 (NKJV)
